-Mafia 3 was officially confirmed just before gamescom, although the full reveal would take place in Germany.
-The game will be developed by Hangar 13, a new studio led by former LucasArts and Star Wars game franchise director Haden Blackman. 2K Games will publish.
-In development for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Mafia 3will be released at some point in 2016.
-Unlike previous games which have used a fictional setting, the action takes place in a reimagined version of New Orleans in 1968.
-The lead character is named Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam veteran whose crew is betrayed and slaughtered by the Italian mob.
-Taking place during a racially charged period in American history, the game will explore racial issues.
-Clay will recruit gang members to take revenge against the mob, including Mafia 2 lead character Vito Scaletta.
-By recruiting various gang leaders, Clay will unlock special new abilities in his fight against the mob.
-Mafia 3 will once again take place from a third-person perspective, as players flit between cover-based shooting and driving.
-It will feature authentic cars, weapons, fashion and songs from the era, including 'Paint it Black', 'Along the Watchtower', and 'Fortunate Son' (via IGN).
